Interior Lighting Trends for 2025
Interior Lighting Trends for 2025
With a new year comes a wave of new designs and inspiration from the world of lighting.
Illuminated Ribbed-Glass
The trend of ribbed glass has always been a popular choice over the years however for 2025 ribbed glass has made a prominent come back. Ribbed glass is highly distinctive and offers the ability to align with both vintage and contemporary design all in one. The beauty of ribbed glass is it has the unique ability to look timeless while adding a softness to the light source. Many designers are choosing to pair ribbed glass with low level colour temperatures that create a very warm light.
For 2025 illuminated ribbed glass is being featured in not only pendant and wall lights but also table lamps. One of our favourite places to make use of ribbed glass is within a living room setting to add an extra layer of texture and ambience or in a kitchen via pendant lights over a kitchen island.
Mood Lighting
With a surge in Instagram interior accounts and celebrities sharing their home with the world, the trend towards mood lighting has steadily grown. Mood lighting is the ultimate way to inject atmospheric illumination into your home and a great way to create adaptable living environments, from day to evening.
When it comes to mood lighting you have a range of options from colour to light temperature. Your personal mood will change from day to night and with that your lighting around you can. During the day your mood lighting can be bright while as evening falls you can turn down the temperature to create a warm glow.
There is a range of spaces within your home that mood lighting can add not only an ambience but also elevate your architecture, from stairwells to ceiling grids down to bath tubs and kitchen units.
Sustainability
Sustainable design is taking centre stage across all industries and the lighting sector is no exception. In 2025, lighting design will see a rise in fixtures made from eco-friendly and recycled materials such as bamboo, reclaimed wood, and repurposed metals.
LED technology, already known for its energy efficiency, will be further optimised to reduce power consumption and extend the lifespan of bulbs.
Notable trends for the year include:
- Sleek, minimalist designs with environmentally conscious finishes.
- Solar-powered lighting solutions for outdoor use.
Statement Lighting
While subtle designs have their appeal, 2025 is all about making a statement with bold lighting fixtures.
This year you can expect to see lots of oversized pendants, sculptural chandeliers and artistic lamps that turn lighting into the centrepiece of a room. These pieces often double as art as they draw the eye and captivate the viewer.
Keep an eye out for mixed-metal finishes blending gold, black, and chrome.
Cozy Lamps
There are also other ways to add warmth and atmosphere to your interior that are gaining popularity.
Placing lamps in key areas can provide just the right amount of light, perfect for creating a cozy reading spot, conversation area, or a relaxing corner.
Adjustable switches that control light levels or turn all lamps on or off with a single click make it easy to change the ambiance of a room. These simple-to-use switches are expected to continue growing in popularity throughout 2025 and are available to order at Barrett Electrical for controlling existing lighting within your interior using smart technology.
Close-to-ceiling lighting
In recent years, interior designers have been increasingly opting for semi-flush mount fixtures over traditional down lights and low-hanging chandeliers or pendants in residential designs. It’s no surprise, then, that semi-flush mount lighting is becoming a more prominent trend, with many of these fixtures appearing larger than before.
With many homes across the UK and Ireland featuring low ceiling heights it is a welcome addition to see lighting designs now focusing on close-to-ceiling lighting. Gone are the days when a tyically low ceiling height is limited in options.
